TRANSIT STRIKE IN NYC?!?!!?!?!?

Strikes by public employees are prohibited by NY state law, but the transit union says it may call a walkout next Monday (Dec 16th) if there is no movement towards an agreement.

Even if you have a car, check out these restrictions:

If you want to enter or leave Manhattan south of 96th Street, private vehicles must have at least four occupants on weekdays and two on weekends. The same occupancy restrictions would apply to portions of some major highways, including the Long Island Expressway, the FDR Drive, the Gowanus Expressway, the Prospect Expressway, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the Belt Parkway.

So what can you do?

Make yourself independent of this whole mess!

GET YOURSELF AN ELECTRIC BIKE OR SCOOTER. No traffic restrictions, get to where you are going on time, know exactly how long it will take to get there, and, believe it or not, the cost to operate it for a whole year is the cost of one or two subway rides!
New York City is more exciting than ever at this festive time of year. The great tree at Rockefeller Center, the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers, Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular. . . if you haven't been in for the holidays before, this is the year to do it (added benefit: visiting NYCEwheels!). Besides, where else in the world can you see Santa on every other street corner? Speaking of Santa, what will you leave for your loved ones under the tree this year? A nice electric scooter, perhaps? ;)

First Birthday Part: an exciting recap

We were so excited about the party we tapped the keg at 5:30 and then waited for people to come. We didn’t have to wait long, either, even though the party didn’t officially start until 7pm. Friends and customers started arriving at about 6, probably because that is when the Gallery next store opened their exhibit “Bridges.” Thanks to all of you who made it out, it was really fun to relax on the other side of the counter with you and toast our first year in business. It made us feel really good that so many of our clients came out.

Energy in Schools Conference

NYCEwheels went up to Albany for the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association’s Energy in Schools Conference. The conference hosted nearly 300 education professionals from New York to Maine. Their focus was alternative energy types and uses and ways to introduce these ideas to their students. The whole idea being that exposing one teacher to green energy is the same as exposing all of his or her students for the rest of his or her career. Educating our children is building a sustainable tomorrow. OK, off the soapbox.

We brought the LA Free Lite, the Panasonic Folder, the Currie E-Ride, the Charly and the Pacelite 705 for conference participants to test drive. In all, we gave close to 100 test drives in between conference sessions. That’s 100 more people who will go on to share their ride story with someone else (or possibly all of their students!) and that’s twice as many people exposed to another alternative means of transportation. Success.

Aside from us, there were many other electric cars, hybrid cars and solar cars available to ride and drive.
