For Giant's current model in the electric bike market, please review the Giant Twist.
Introducing the Suede E, Giant's latest major contribution to the evolution of electric bikes: a smooth, superbly comfortable and stylish cruiser. The Suede E incorporates a high torque, 36 volt, brushless, U.S. designed front hub motor, a large (9 AH) NiMH battery, an adjustable handle bar stem, a seat post with built in suspension, and a 7-speed derailleur.
Whatever you might be looking for in an electric bike, the Suede E has it. Are you looking for a better and more environmentally friendly way to commute? A method of getting to work that doesn't leave you tired and sweaty, or your wallet empty? Are you looking for a way to exercize with some assistance? Do you want to increase your riding range without worrying about having enough energy for the return trip? Does your route have hills that make your current bicycle impractical for your needs?
The Suede-E electric bike features three different modes of riding. Aside from functioning like a standard bike, you can ride it in the pedal activated power assist mode. While in this mode, stepping lightly on the pedal will cause power to rush in. Basically, you will put in a small amount of effort and the electric motor will put in the rest. As long as you pedal, you will receive power. It's an intelligent system, so it will give you an appropriate amount of assistance based on how much pressure you're applying to the pedals. For example, if you're going uphill you will be applying more pressure to the pedals and the system will know to assist you more. If you're going downhill you will be putting very little to no pressure on the pedals, and the system will know to help you less, if at all.
While riding with the pedal activated power assist, you can also turn the twist-grip throttle to get a boost, thereby combining your power-assisted pedaling with the throttle and reaching a new level of power. This option is great for overcoming hills with a fraction of the effort.
If you want your ride to be effortless, simply stop pedaling and hold the throttle down for about 3 to 5 seconds. At this point the motor will take over completely and you'll be in cruise control mode. To re-enter the pedal activated power assist mode, all you have to do is hit one of the brake levers. This variety of riding options will suit all of your varying needs.
The Suede E has a 17 mile-per-hour cut-off speed, so you don't have to worry about the bike being unsafely fast. In addition, the Giant bikes are some of the lighter electric bikes, with the Suede E ranking as one of the lightest full-size electric bike on the U.S. market. The bike itself weighs 44 lbs, with an additional 12 lbs added by the battery. The battery locks into place on the frame with a key. To remove it, you simply unlock it and take it off. The battery can be charged on or off the bike.
With its diverse riding options, ability to climb hills and its unequaled range, the Suede-E electric bike has received nothing but positive feedback from electric bicycle owners and enthusiasts. The Suede E electric bike is extremely reliable, and both Giant and NYCeWheels are known for their product support.
